Leap-frogging projects when they become creatively boring seems to be working well for keeping me focused on the core “progress” regarding 3D Modelling and Game Creation.
This weekend I started trying to model a car, the first attempt petered out when I felt it was no longer close to the reference images:

After this I moved to trying to model a gun for my Wolfenstein clone, and I was relatively happy with the results:

After this I felt relatively accomplished, and went back to the drawing board with the car – this time with relative success:

I decided I liked the model enough that I wanted to see it drive, and so I did!

I had great fun creating the landmass in blender using Sculpt, then using the VehicleController3D and Wheel nodes to bring my car to life! I even went as far as adding music, dust mote particles, and tire track particle effects.
Admittedly I found the car a bit floaty in the final iteration – the best control I found was actually induced by a bug! I was multiplying the velocity of the car as it’s also the basis for the camera controller – the camera lerps slowly after the car’s rotation.
